Dreamwalkers: Mixing Tunes

Jeff Hocker and I sat down this afternoon and made our first foray into making our songs album ready. Mixing many tracks is quite an art form. Not only do you have to be able to hear every individual track, you have to have a bigger auditory of vision of how they fit together. There are three dimensions to consider: of course volume of each instrument or voice; panning or placement in the track; and depth, including reverb and echo. Microphones are dead environments until you create the inner world. Reverb and echo give your ears information about a sense of place. In an ordinary environment, sounds bounce off the walls and other structures and let you know where things are. We have to create it in the mixing environment. What great fun to create the world of a song. Will be sending out a few snippets soon.

Peace,

Dr Dreamwalker
