From the recording Music Is The Ride

This song was inspired by a lecture by one of my favorite spiritual teachers, Ram Dass, and informed by my own experiences of life. Having studied many spiritual paths, there seems to be commonalities, sit down, shut up, and breathe. I love Debbie Stern's background vocals and harmonies, angelic, lofty, and powerful. Patrick Russini was at his brilliant best on this one, suggesting the harmonics on the guitar that drive the track higher and higher, and Tony Sheppard's lead guitar was quite wonderful as well. Daniel Polyak pulled the drums beats as if he was with me when I wrote it.

Lyrics

The Silence Between The Worlds

Words and Music

by Richard Schulman

The crucial moment

Has been building

For quite a long time

Different feelings in my body

Odd thoughts

Running through my mind

Say the incantation

Magic engaging the Sun

One last chance to make it

Demand brilliance

From the chosen one

No more a Hindi, Muslim, Christian,

Buddhist, or Jew

I’m a living spirit

In the silence

Between the worlds

If it’s cold outside

You feel warmer at home

The greater desolation

The more one welcomes love

At the summit

You’ve tamed the mountain

Who were you?

How did you get

To where you are?

No more a Hindi, Muslim, Christian,

Buddhist, or Jew

I’m a living spirit

In the silence

Between the worlds

There is a part of me

That does not speak but knows

And a part is speaking

But doesn’t know

No more a Hindi, Muslim, Christian,

Buddhist, or Jew

I’m a living spirit

In the silence

Between the worlds

We take human birth

Live many experiences

Awaken from illusion

With awareness and precision

Loneliness brings compassion

Possibilities we are capable of.

There is no separation

Nothing between us and love

No more a Hindi, Muslim, Christian,

Buddhist, or Jew

I’m a living spirit

In the silence

Between the worlds
