"A Dream is a story we tell to ourselves, about ourselves. A Dream is a letter sent from the soul to make us whole." ~From A Dreamer's Story by Dr Dreamwalker (Richard Schulman)
“We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams.”
"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined." ~Henry David Thoreau
Dreamwalkers is the manifestation of a dream by band founders, Dr Dreamwalker (Richard Schulman) and Jeff Hocker (The Wave). We write, record, and perform original music reflecting our experience of the transformational energies needed to survive these turbulent times.
Dr Dreamwalker (Richard Schulman) and Jeff Hocker (The Wave) began playing together years ago in local jams. Wanting to have expression of original material, they founded Dreamwalkers band in 2014. Good friend and guitar wizard Tony Sheppard joined us in 2016.
After the Dreamwalkers album was released in March 2019, Jeff Hocker announced he was moving and the band was reconstituted. Old friend and great bass player, Bart Richards joined us. Master of harmonies, Debbie Stern worked on the album and joined the band for the release party and stayed. Daniel Polyak joined the band on drums and percussion. The current lineup has Tony Sheppard on Lead Guitar, Debbie Stern on Vocals and Keyboards, Bart Richards on Bass, Daniel Polyak on Drums and Percussion, and Dr. Dreamwalker (Richard Schulman) on Vocals and Guitar.
The songs are inspired by our increasing awareness of mortality, a wish for a higher perspective on life, a longing for love, and events in the world that have touched us all. The music is a blending of the path that each band member has taken and has multiple influences, but the sound has a signature all its own. We are refugees from the late 60s and proudly carry that spirit with us.
Dreaming Out Loud
Dreaming Out Loud refers to the idea that dreams are stories we tell ourselves about ourselves and our band will be singing them out loud. Each of our original songs is a short journey into the deeper reality we all walk through every day and night. Like an astronaut who brings back moon rocks for all of us to see, the songs go into the unseen world to retrieve ideas, truths, stories, conflicts and confusion regarding the puzzle of humanity. After all we are more human than anything else. Oddly, the uncanny reality is, when one ventures into the underground, it's a blast. We think of the unconscious as somber and serious, when, in truth, it's a wild party. I invite our Dreamwalkers Family (whisper in the ear. . . it's technically anyone human) to join with us and walk through a few dreams of our own, your own, and a few given to us by great songwriters we love.
Dreamwalkers Band is all about creation, emotional expression, and intellectual expansion. We have great fun in the creation of our tunes and we enjoy sending those vibrations out into the world. While we do play a lot of original material, we also love the music of others. When we play covers we do our best to make them our own.
Our songs are like shared dreams. Take a walk through some of our most sacred, enjoyable, difficult, fun, and wild musical dreams. You might find something for yourself.
